This past summer, I had the opportunity to once again be a sponsor at the NW Tune Up festival, a 3 day mountain biking and musical festival that celebrates the best of Bellingham’s riding culture. When I was presented the option to sponsor the Radical Roots MTB Skills Clinics at the festival grounds, headed up by local MTB legend, Angi Weston, I jumped at the chance. Not only is Angi a pivotal member of our local mountain biking scene, she also happens to be a client of Jason Loeb Realty! I say over and over again, I have the coolest clients! And as such, I love to showcase the awesome people that I get to help buy/sell homes. So read on to learn more about why Angi chose to make Bellingham “home”.

What first brought you to Bellingham, and at what point did you realize it had become home?
I came to Bellingham to attend college at WWU and discovered mountain biking while I was a student. Once I graduated, I decided it would be fun to stick around for at least a year to enjoy the riding and snowboarding some more before tackling my career and possibly moving. I landed a job at Fairhaven Bike Shop and got my first taste of working in the bike industry, which I absolutely loved. Later, I became a sales rep for Kona Bikes, a job that had me travel all over the country. Every time I came home, I was reminded just how special Bellingham is. The trails, the people, and the riding community always made me excited to return. That’s when I realized this wasn’t just where I lived—it was home.
As a mountain bike coach, what makes Bellingham such a special place for riders of all ages and abilities?
There really is something here for everyone. Between our awesome pump tracks, beautiful greenway trails, and world-class mountain bike trail system, every rider can find a place to build confidence and have fun. Whether you’re riding for the very first time or looking for technical challenges, Bellingham has it all. What makes it even more special is the people. Our local advocacy group, WMBC, and countless volunteers work tirelessly to build and maintain trails while creating opportunities that bring the riding community together. It’s an incredibly welcoming place to learn, grow, and connect.
When friends or family come to visit, what are your “can’t miss” Bellingham recommendations?
Getting on a bike, of course! I also love sending people to the Transition Outpost for some Outpost Eats and beverages on the porch; it’s a classic way to spend a Bellingham afternoon or evening. It’s one of my favorite places to relax after a ride and captures so much of what makes Bellingham special—great food, great people, and bikes everywhere.
What do you love most about the people and community here?
The people here genuinely show up for one another. Whether it’s digging trails on a rainy Saturday, volunteering at local events, or cheering on a rider trying something new, there’s a spirit of generosity and encouragement that feels special. I’ve built Radical Roots MTB around helping people gain confidence on their bikes, and this community has embraced that mission from day one. Bellingham is full of people who love the outdoors and are eager to share it with others, and I think that’s a big part of what makes this place feel so connected.
If someone was thinking about moving to Bellingham, what would you want them to know before they packed their bags?
Come for the trails but stay for the community. Bellingham is an outdoor paradise, but what really makes it special are the people you’ll meet while you’re out enjoying it. Be prepared for a little rain—it keeps everything green and our trails riding beautifully—but also be ready to embrace an active lifestyle. Whether you’re into biking, skiing, hiking, paddling, or just spending time outside, it’s easy to find your people here. Before long, you’ll understand why so many of us came for a short stay and never left.
