It’s been a while since we’ve written about one of our amazing clients. Well, this person isn’t really a client, but definitely is special to Jason and his business – his wife, Carrie! Carrie grew up on Whidbey Island and first met Jason in 1993 at Whatcom Community College. They were married in 1998 and have lived in the PNW their entire lives. Having raised 3 fantastic children together, Carrie has spent the last several years pursuing artistic endeavors, utilizing different styles and mediums including textiles, recycled papers, natural dyes, pastels, and acrylics.
Carrie’s current body of work features abstract interpretations of the Pacific Northwest’s water and lands. Her process involves multiple washes of acrylic paint applied to raw unprimed canvas. The result is nothing short of stunning and evokes a sense of landscape “familiarity” to those of us who are fortunate to live here in the PNW. In Carrie’s own words “Each piece is a blend of memories layered upon one another, giving rise to a new yet intimately familiar locale.”
Carrie’s newest collection of work will be on display at the beloved Smith and Vallee Gallery, in Bow, February 29 – March 31, 2024. An artist reception will be held Saturday March 2nd from 3-5pm and we welcome all Jason Loeb Realty clients to attend!
Here’s more about Carrie:
Did you formally study art?
I was not formally trained in art; my mother was an artist/graphic designer, but I ended up with a degree in Molecular Biology as it was considered a ‘safer’ direction! 🙂
Where does the inspiration for your art come from?
The inspiration for my art comes from time spent on the waters of the Puget Sound and the comfort it brings me having grown up on Whidbey Island. I love the idea of focusing on soothing scenes, created from an accumulation of time and place. The technique I use for my current collection is influenced by the early art of Helen Frankenthaler who was one of the first to explore stained paintings on unprimed canvas.
How do you spend your time outside of art?
When I am not making art, I am hiking on our beautiful PNW trails, occasionally snowboarding with my snow-obsessed family, and boating in the San Juan Islands.
What do you love about living in the Pacific Northwest?
My favorite part about living in the PNW is the fact that the area offers so many opportunities to be out in nature. From our trails to our mountains, to our waterways, there is something for everyone to enjoy in this beautiful place we call home.
